This iconic model was created by Marcel Breuer in 1925 during his tenure as director of the Bauhaus carpentry workshop in Dessau, Germany. For his creation, he was inspired by his adler bicycle, fascinated by its design and the lightness of its tubular steel frame. Luckily, he was able to take advantage of the new technique developed by the Mannesmann company, which allowed him to obtain steel tubes without welding. Innovative by its materials and its technique, this design knew how to last in the time thanks to a succession of editors, to begin with the famous German-Austrian company thonet which took care of its production until the beginning of the second world war. At that time it will not be named wassily but b3. It was only after the war when the Italian company gavina took over the production, that it gave this name in reference to the abstract painter wassily kandinsky who attended the same school. The designer after hearing all the praises of his comrade for his new creation decided to create a copy for his private quarters. It was in 1968 that knoll international bought gavina. The wassily armchair thus integrated the catalog and is still produced to this day. The structure is composed of 5 round steel tubes, folded and chromed. Assembled by a system of screws and maintained by strips of leather cognac creating a suspension effect. The base has 4 plastic glides to avoid friction with the floor. Materials: round steel, folded, chromed and sealed. Original screws in black all still available. Leather: new, cognac colored Italian cowhide, pigmented and professionally finished with saddle stitching. In very good condition, professionally cleaned.
