Large Art Deco display cabinet by Lingel in very good original condition. The first Hungarian wooden furniture factory was founded in 1864 by Karóly Lingel under the name Lingel Karóly and Sons. Initially, they produced wooden items, mouldings, and frames, and it was in the early 19th century that furniture production began. By 1867, the workshop was already large enough to produce the coronation accessories for St. Matthias Church during the coronation of Franz Joseph I. It also contributed to the decoration of Buda Castle, the People's Theatre, the Gellért Hotel, and St. Elizabeth's Church in Rózsák Square. The new factory catalogue from 1914 reflects its development, containing many new products and a wide selection of modern office furniture. In the 1920s, a decisive step was taken: modern office furniture was followed by modern home furniture. They quickly became one of the most well-known furniture manufacturers in the country. Lingel broke away from the trends of the time in the office furniture industry by drawing inspiration from American trends, which were at the forefront at the time. Their furniture was not a mere imitation, but an adaptation of ideas combined with technical improvements.
