Painting made in oil on canvas embedded (period, the frame having been enlarged originally, see photo) and representing a landscape of algeria (annotation with lead pencil on the back of the work) and signed by jean-désiré bascoulès, painter very well referenced (see bio attached). The work is in good condition, pictorial layer healthy and clean, beautiful diaphanous and bright atmosphere. Some cracks of antiquity, usual on old works. Chassis dimension: 35 / 54 cm. Jean-désiré bascoules was a french painter born in 1886, died in 1976. In 1948, during his exhibition at the french institute in london, his works were associated with those of cézanne, renoir, manet and toulouse-lautrec. His work was notably rediscovered during the great sales of orientalist paintings by drouot and the gros-delettrez study which allowed him to find a place worthy of his talent. Biography: Cocteau said of read that he was a "gift of the occitan france to french berberia". He first attended the school of fine arts in bordeaux, then attended fernand cormon's studio in paris for two years. He then exhibited at the salon in 1921 and obtained press success and medal. In 1924, he won the gold medal, the julien lemordant prize and the scholarship of the general government of algeria. Prix abd-el-tif 1925, he worked in figuig, touggourt and oran. Painter appreciated and protected by sultan mohammed V who reserves him a solitary pavilion in the district of his guard, he obtained many awards and important commissions from the state (national manufacture of gobelins), including the grand prix artistique de l'algérie in 1930, the prize of the compagnie générale transatlantique 1926. He received the knight's cross of the legion of honour for arts and letters in 1931. Installed in algiers, place du gouvernement (today place des martyrs) he left many views, like marquet, on the square and the port of algiers.
