🪑 Antique stool by J. & J. Kohn in bent wood – Austria, early 20th century. A very beautiful antique stool from the Austrian manufacturer J. & J. Kohn, identifiable by its original label still present under the seat: "J. & J. KOHN – WIEN – AUSTRIA". A lovely piece of Viennese furniture in bent wood, simple, elegant, and particularly decorative. 🏷️ The J. & J. Kohn label is still present under the seat, allowing for a certain attribution to the famous Austrian manufacturer Jacob & Josef Kohn. The company is documented in Vienna between 1867 and 1917 and is among the great historical manufacturers of bent wood furniture. 🌳 The structure is made of stained bent wood, most likely beech, an emblematic material of this production. The Musée d'Orsay notably holds Kohn furniture made of bent and stained beech. ⭕ Its design is particularly successful: a round seat encircled by a thick band, four slender slightly flared legs, and a large circular crossbar in bent wood connecting the base. A construction that is both visually light and very graphic. ✨ The wooden seat features a lovely circular top that is slightly recessed, highlighted by a fine dark line. The simplicity of the design particularly showcases the warm patina of the wood. 🕰️ This is likely a production from the early 20th century, around 1900-1910. 🤎 The wood has a very beautiful old patina, with its shades of brown, small scuffs, marks, scratches, and signs of use. I would absolutely keep this aspect as is: it is precisely what gives the piece its character. 🔎 The underside is also interesting to preserve in its old state, with its Kohn label and several fragments of period labels/papers still visible. 📐 Dimensions: H 55 cm × Ø 35 cm. 📏 Width at the feet: approx. 30 cm. 🏠 With its height of 55 cm, it works well as both a side stool and a small pedestal.
