Japanese Carved Bamboo Samurai Lamp Base, Mid-20th Century. Ref.: TL2003

A striking Japanese carved bamboo lamp base featuring a finely executed relief of a traditional samurai warrior. The cylindrical body is richly decorated with intricate hand-carved details, including the warrior’s armour, facial features and surrounding textured motifs, framed by decorative carved bands at the top and bottom. The warm honey-brown bamboo has developed a beautiful aged patina, accentuating the depth and detail of the carving. The carved bamboo body is mounted on a later ebonised wooden base and fitted with a brass-toned lamp holder. The piece is particularly appealing as a sculptural lighting element, combining Japanese craftsmanship with a strong Mid-Century decorative character.
