Superb large cylindrical workshop vase, made from a very textured black to grey clay, probably grogged. The piece alternates between wide cobalt blue and emerald green glazed panels and bands of raw, deeply striated black clay. The glazes exhibit a beautiful crackled effect and numerous shades, giving the vase a mineral and almost volcanic appearance. A particularly original handcrafted creation, in a brutalist and Japonese spirit, likely made using a technique similar to contemporary raku. The interior is made of the same textured, unglazed black clay. An incised signature under the base, difficult to read, possibly reads "Goëls". Unknown ceramicist. As the interior is unglazed, its watertightness has not been tested. It can be used as a decorative vase or with an inner container. A very beautiful character piece, ideal for contemporary, brutalist, wabi-sabi, or Japonese decor. Very good overall condition. Some minor signs of use and irregularities in material or glazing related to the handcrafted nature. The network of cracks visible in the glaze contributes to the piece's appearance. Height: 30 cm. Diameter: approximately 9 cm. Weight: 2 kg.
