A striking pair of Søholm Stentøj ceramic table lamps from Denmark, designed in the distinctive aesthetic of 1960s Scandinavian modernism. Søholm was a renowned manufacturer based on the island of Bornholm, known for its decorative stoneware forms, experimental glazes, and distinctive relief ornamentation. The lamp bases have a soft, organic form—wide, rounded bases flow smoothly into slender necks. The deep, navy-blue high-gloss glaze beautifully accentuates the sculptural silhouette. The lower part of the bases features a decorative, geometric relief composed of repeating motifs, which becomes more or less visible depending on the angle of the light. This combination of dark glaze and geometric decoration is characteristic of Søholm ceramics from the Mid-Century period. The unique proportions of both lamps also catch the eye—the massive, low-set base is paired with a tall, slender upper section. The design is complemented by wide, pleated shades in a subtle, powdery lavender hue. Their regular folds add rhythm and softness, creating an interesting contrast to the hard, glossy surface of the ceramic. The pair perfectly exemplifies the character of Danish design from this period: the simplicity of a functional form combined with the decorative qualities of ceramics. The lamps can form a striking, symmetrical composition placed on either side of a bed, dresser, or console table, but they work just as well as decorative lighting in a living room.
