French school of the 19th century, attributed to Achille Deveria (1800-1857) A lady and her page with a dog, Renaissance-style scene. Oil on wood panel. A label on the back mentioning the attribution to Deveria. In a modern frame: 43 X 34 cm. The attribution to Achille Deveria makes sense due to the stylistic proximity and inspiration. Deveria was a major figure in Troubadour-style painting. As in this charming painting, artists of the time sought to evoke the daily life of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, in a very idealised manner, of course. The artist here evokes Italy and Florence, the building in the background is clearly inspired by the Palazzo Vecchio.
