This oil on cardboard from the Napoleonic III era depicts the upstream cliff at Etretat. This charming painting represents the beach of Etretat with its washerwomen and fishermen at the capstan very early in the history of this seaside town, around 1855, and therefore before the construction of the sailors' chapel, built in 1856. The cardboard, purchased from Muller in Paris (one of the suppliers to the Impressionists), indicates an anonymous Parisian painter. The period frame is in very good condition, as can be seen in the photos. Dimensions of the painting: 27.5 X 37.5. With the frame: 32 X 40.
