E. Bourgeois Grand Dépôt plant blue decoration washbasin plate

Antique footed plate in fine cream earthenware decorated with an elegant deep blue botanical motif, featuring large stylised leaves and berries in a very refined Japonisme style from the late 19th century. The repetitive frieze border enhances the graphic character of the piece and gives it a highly decorative presence despite its simple shape. Stamp on the reverse: Grand Dépôt de porcelaines & faïences – 21 rue Drouot Paris – Branch 33 rue Saint-Ferréol Marseille. Émile Bourgeois was one of the major Parisian distributors of ceramics and porcelain at the end of the 19th century. In beautiful vintage condition, with a lovely old patina, fine cracks in the glaze, slight signs of age, and two visible chips under the foot, which do not affect the presentation of the piece (see photos).
