Very elegant lyre-back chair in carved and patinated wood, in the Louis XVI style, probably made at the end of the 19th century or around 1900. This chair features a remarkable openwork lyre-shaped backrest, an emblematic element of the neoclassical repertoire and Louis XVI furniture. The carved decoration is particularly intricate: • central backrest in the shape of a lyre with open strings; • volutes and leaf motifs carved; • neoclassical capitals and ornaments; • turned and fluted side posts; • curved crossbars adorned with decorative friezes; • carved connecting blocks; • four tapered and fluted legs. The whole reflects quality decorative craftsmanship, with a beautiful presence and a warm patina of the wood. The seat is upholstered in a red fabric with floral and leafy patterns, bordered with decorative metal studding. Dimensions. • Total height: 89 cm. • Width: 42 cm. • Depth: 44 cm. • Seat height: 46 cm. • Seat: approximately 42 × 34 cm. • Weight: 5 kg. Condition. Good overall condition considering its age, with traces and patina corresponding to its antiquity. The structure and carved elements are well preserved. The upholstery shows normal signs of age and use. The photographs also show the underside of the seat and allow appreciation of the traditional construction of the chair. A very beautiful piece for a classic interior, character home, Louis XVI furniture collection, or refined decoration. Reference: I159.
