Carved walnut Napoleon III style velvet medallion chair

Salon chair with a medallion back (balloon back) in Napoleon III style, made of dark-stained carved walnut. The back features a central almond-shaped opening, a frieze adorned with a carved rosette, and an intermediate rail with rococo motifs. The belt is enhanced with a central shell carving. The four cabriole legs are carved with leafy motifs at their base. The curved seat, generously padded, is covered in chiselled velvet with a golden beige background featuring large floral patterns in crimson red and olive green, bordered with a braided gold trim. The piece is sold as is: the fabric shows areas of wear and age consistent with its period, and the wood displays a beautiful natural patina characteristic of the third quarter of the 19th century.
