Low Wood Turned Midcentury Brutalist Side Table in the Style of Charles Dudouyt, France, 1950s Round pedestal side table from France, in the manner of Charles Dudouyt. The top is a solid wood disc with a rounded, molded edge and concentric grooves cut into the surface, radiating out from the center. The turned column has a ring-turned collar at the top and a swelling body carved with rows of faceted, diamond-point studs, the motif most associated with Dudouyt's work. It stands on a wide round base with matching concentric grooves that step down toward the foot. The wood has a deep, dark brown stain with a warm sheen, and the grain shows clearly along the edge of the top and the base. The joinery and carving are chunky and hand-finished, which gives the table a sculptural, rustic presence. It works as a side table, a lamp table or a plinth for a sculpture.
