Enzo Mari, the Italian radical of autoprogettazione
Enzo Mari (1932-2020) is one of the most radical and political Italian designers of the 20th century. An artist, theorist and designer for Danese, Driade, Magis and Artemide, he signed for six decades a body of work where each object is a moral reflection on the role of design. His publication Autoprogettazione (1974), which proposes that everyone make their own furniture with planks and nails, remains a unique political manifesto in design history. His perpetual calendar for Danese, Sof Sof Driade chair and Pago Pago vases complete a demanding body of work.
Enzo Mari pieces for Danese (perpetual calendar, vases), Driade (Sof Sof chair) and the Autoprogettazione manifesto remain the designer's most identifiable works. Italian vintage design to find for those wanting a radical signature, now an absolute reference of design thought.
