Carlo Nason for Mazzega Murano Glass Space Age Floor Lamp, 1970s

Rare and highly sculptural Italian Space Age floor lamp designed by Carlo Nason for Mazzega in the 1970s, executed in hand-blown Murano glass and chrome-plated metal. The monumental vertical composition consists of stacked rounded elements in vivid orange hand-blown Murano glass, divided by contrasting polished chrome-plated metal sections. A broad textured white Murano glass base anchors the composition, while a large spherical diffuser in matching hand-blown glass crowns the lamp. When illuminated, the piece undergoes a dramatic transformation. Light passes through the orange glass body and textured white glass elements, emphasizing their depth, irregularities and handcrafted character while creating a warm atmospheric glow. The sophisticated multi-light construction incorporates separate light sources throughout the lamp, allowing the glass body itself to function as an illuminated sculptural element. The original dual-switch arrangement permits different lighting sections to be controlled, offering multiple atmospheric configurations. The lamp has been carefully refurbished and fitted with new electrical wiring, while its original glass and vintage character have been preserved.
