This doll is from the matagoro workshop, a lineage of sculptors since the end of the 18th century. The craftsmen pursue a goal: to celebrate mount nangai-cho (akita prefecture) in an artisanal and popular spirit. The model has a very stripped-down shape. Made of very soft wood, it is sanded. The suggestion of the kimono is usually a simple line. Three symbols of "sho-chiku-bai" highlight the obi. Sometimes were incorporating haiku, (poems). This "jumbo"-sized copy is unusual in europe - matagoro kiyomi is the ninth generation. -- about the kokeshis: they were toys for girls, or offered as a token of love or friendship; symbolized the desire to have a healthy child. They would have a talisman function, are modesty, softness. They also have a buddhist origin. Their hairstyles evoking the buddha bun.
