An Art Nouveau tray from the early 20th century, made in Austria, features a construction based on silver-plated brass with a matte finish and a delicate layer of patina. The wide rim is decorated with a repetitive, linear-plant ornament, characteristic of the Viennese variant of the Art Nouveau style. The central insert is smooth white porcelain with a glossy surface, decorated with a hand-painted motif of roses and leaves in shades of blue and gray-blue accents. The handles, integrally connected to the frame, take the form of openwork, organic loops with geometric cutouts. The whole maintains a light, proportional form, combining decorative qualities with the functionality typical for serving coffee or sweets. Condition is very good – visible traces of patina on the metal and a few minor scratches, while the porcelain is free of damage and losses. The item has not been restored, retaining its original character from the era. The form of this tray speaks with the voice of Viennese Art Nouveau, seeking a dialogue between the freedom of nature and subtle geometry. Its cool shine of silver-plated metal and soft, hand-painted porcelain tell of salons where vessels were not only practical complements to everyday life but also an invitation to a sensual play of light and color. The motif of roses on the glaze suggests small serving rituals – from breakfasts to afternoon teas – and the patina on the handles, like a silent witness of past decades, emphasizes the authenticity of the material and the craftsmanship of Austrian workshops. The tray will fit perfectly on an oak sideboard or walnut buffet, especially among a collection of porcelain or glass from the era. It can be combined with an Art Nouveau vase, sets of silver cutlery, or the simple whiteness of a linen tablecloth to highlight its decorative character. It will look good in classic, eclectic, or gently modernist arrangements, but it can also serve as a subtle counterpoint against contemporary minimalism, where history and detail are at the forefront.
