Japanese-style display shelf in bamboo and wood, circa 1890. Asymmetrically composed display furniture, combining open shelves, a glass-fronted compartment at the top, and a small lower cupboard. Its bamboo structure, in amber tones, frames dark wood panels and shelves. The cupboard door features a delicate decoration of flowering branches and a bird. The raised ends of the top shelf and the geometric spacers highlight the Japanese-inspired design of the piece. A decorative piece intended to hold books, ceramics, and collectibles. This work evokes productions from the late 19th century, in the spirit of the Aesthetic Movement. Estimated dating around 1880–1900. Manufacturer unidentified. The Aesthetic Movement is an artistic movement, primarily British, that developed around 1860–1900 during the Victorian era. Its central idea is "art for art's sake": seeking beauty for its own sake. This vision influences painting, as well as furniture, textiles, and interior decoration. Dimensions: Height: 170 cm. Width: 100 cm. Depth: 32 cm.
