This is an antique Italian Sorrento occasional table top, likely from the 19th century, or early 20th century. The elaborate parquetry and marquetry top depicts the scene of Saint George slaying the Dragon. The inlay work uses various precious woods, including walnut and maple. Sorrento tables are known for their intricate, detailed wood inlay (marquetry) designs. The central image is surrounded by symmetrical patterns and stringing. These tables typically feature a turned and inlaid central stem with three scrolled legs. They are considered fine examples of the 19th-century Italian craftsmanship. There are some defects in the wood surface (mainly on the border of the top (seen on the photos). The condition is good consistent with the age and use. Measurement: Diameter 60cm X height 73.5cm. Made in Italy. Period 1880s/1900s.
