Hand-painted Staffordshire porcelain dog in ecru and russet, depicting a seated Cavalier King Charles with its head turned to the right, wearing a gold collar with a padlock and chain. This dog, dated to the mid-19th century, is in perfect condition, with no cracks or chips. Highly valued at the Victorian court, the Cavalier King Charles was often represented in pairs to decorate the mantels of English bourgeois homes. According to an anecdote, the position of the dogs at the window indicated the presence or absence of the master of the house. Ideal for a side table, a mantelpiece, or a bookshelf, it will add an antique and vintage touch to your decor.
