Emblematic of English interiors of the 20th century, these Staffordshire ceramic dogs were traditionally placed in pairs on the mantels of Victorian homes. King Charles spaniels were particularly cherished in Victorian England, notably by Queen Victoria herself. Their success was such that they became one of the iconic subjects of Staffordshire manufacturers. Generally sold in pairs, these dogs proudly stood on either side of the fireplace and are now sought after for their delightfully British charm. A lovely pair to collect, but especially easy to incorporate into contemporary decor: on a mantelpiece, of course, but also on a bookshelf, a console table, or amidst a collection of antique objects. Origin: England, Staffordshire. Period: 20th century. Material: glazed ceramic. Decoration: hand-painted. Sold: in pairs. Dimensions: 22x19cm. Very good condition. Antique pieces showing irregularities, signs of use, and marks of time consistent with their age. These characteristics are an integral part of their charm and authenticity.
