He studied at the ecole supérieure des beaux-arts in algiers (1953-1956) and at the ecole camondo in paris (1956-1959). Soon after, he began to produce his own designs in a small workshop in algiers. In 1963, he moved to eguilles, near aix-en-provence. In 1968, max sauze founded his aluminum work company, where he created dynamic and sculptural luminaires. His designs are often made from layers of aluminum woven and folded on wire structures. This production process comes from his spiritual perspectives and his taste for the natural essence of life. Max sauze's most famous designs bear the names of constellations or holy bodies, such as the cassiopeia chandelier (ca. 1969), originally designed for the palais des congrès in aix-en-provence. Notable designs include the orion chandelier (ca. 1967) presented at the salon des artistes décorateurs, the uranus table lamp (ca. 1970) and the isocele nesting tables (1970s). Max sauze's work is very varied: sculptures, gardens, ceramics, lighting, architecture, books. It is representative of the renaissance of craftsmanship in the 1960s and 1970s. It is often considered a precursor of post-modernism. Although he is retired, max sauze still lives in eguilles, where the public can admire his garden. His son, sébastien sauze, took over the management of the family business and creates his father's designs by hand. More info ask me.
