Max Sauze, the aluminium sculpted lamp
Max Sauze (born 1933) is a French sculptor whose lighting fixtures have become the most sought-after objects of kinetic art applied to the domestic. Settled in Marseille, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, he imagined from the 1960s onwards sculpted lamps where blades of anodised aluminium or folded metal sheets unfold in spirals, fans, geometric explosions. His Cassiopée, Saturne and Galaxie lamps have become classics of 20th-century French art lighting.
Max Sauze lamps, in pleated aluminium or copper, remain the sculptor's most identifiable pieces. A French art vintage lighting to find for those wanting to bring into their interior an object on the border between sculpture and design.
