Elegant set of nesting tables dating from the early 1920s, featuring a simple structure in blackened wood, enhanced with gold leaf and lacquered decorations in red and orange tones. The tops are adorned with figurative compositions evoking unique landscapes and motifs inspired by Asia. The frames with golden floral decorations punctuate the whole and highlight the rigorous geometry of the legs. This deliberately minimalist structure rests on four square-section legs, reinforcing the graphic presence of the tops. These stylised scenes well represent the spirit infused by the Atelier Martine, founded in 1911, conceived as a decorative laboratory with multiple collaborators, encouraging a free and spontaneous approach to design while integrating numerous Asian influences. The attraction to Asian arts, particularly lacquer, prints, and landscape compositions, plays an important role in nurturing a decorative vocabulary that blends deliberate naivety, craftsmanship, and stylistic richness. This set thus illustrates the enthusiasm for Orientalism and the arts of the Far East that permeated decorative arts in the early 20th century, strongly disseminated by French workshops, through pieces where the minimalism of forms serves as a backdrop for free and poetic decoration. The dimensions are Width 61 X Depth 44 X Height 61 cm for the largest, Width 50 X Depth 32 X Height 52 cm for the middle one, and Width 40 X Depth 23 X Height 45 cm for the smallest. The three tables are in very good condition.
