Modernist pedestal bowl

Bowl on a fine foot in beige stoneware, mid-century, decorated in relief with a stylised ace of spades. Good condition. • Shape: Flared bowl on a high ring foot, typical of ashtrays or decorative bowls from the 1950s-1960s. • Glaze: Clear/beige-grey with nuances and visible turning marks inside the foot (concentric spirals). The edge of the foot is more brown/rust, which is classic for glazed earthenware pieces from that era. • Overall style: The stylised decoration with the two round "eyes" and symmetrical curved lines remains very characteristic of mid-century French graphic design. Most likely attribution: Mado Jolain (or a nearby workshop) Her universe corresponds best: footed bowls, abstract or semi-figurative decorations (stylised faces, graphic patterns with circles/eyes), clear glazes and dark lines. Many of her pieces were not always signed, especially the simpler ones.
