Large flat desk in the Louis XV style after Charles Cressent, featuring marquetry and gilded bronze. Dimensions: Height: 82 cm. Width: 172 cm. Depth: 85 cm. An important flat desk in the Louis XV style, richly adorned with gilded bronzes. The undulating front opens with three large drawers. The top features three surfaces covered in beige leather with gold tooling, framed by precious wood with a frieze and marquetry decoration. The quality of the ornamentation is remarkable: female bust figures at the corners, sabots, drawer frames, drop handles, and finely chiselled and gilded mounts. The curved legs end in bronze sabots. The back is also crafted, allowing for presentation in the centre of a room. The overall design, abundance of bronzes, and quality of the wood evoke the prestigious Parisian productions of the late 19th century or early 20th century, in the style of the great cabinetmakers of the 18th century. Period. Early 20th century. Style. Louis XV Rococo. Materials. Precious wood (burl and frieze), oak, gilded bronzes, embossed and gilded leather. Condition. Good overall condition. Some wear to the leather and slight marks on the wood. Beautiful preservation of the gilding on the bronzes.
