Elegant and refined, this early 20th-century desk table in rosewood perfectly illustrates the return to favour of curved forms and precious decorations inspired by the Louis XV style. The top, delicately inlaid with rosewood and mahogany, features a carefully crafted geometric design, typical of the quality productions of the Belle Époque, a period during which cabinetmakers returned to the great French styles of the pre-war era, out of nostalgia for progress and peace. The front opens with a drawer highlighted by a prominent lock entry in gilded bronze, finely chiselled. The handles, also in gilded bronze, complete the ensemble with discreet elegance. Resting on four curved legs, the desk table adopts the soft and harmonious curves characteristic of the Louis XV style. Each leg is adorned with a drop in gilded bronze, ending in a pretty foot that protects and enriches the base of the piece. The whole reflects a masterful cabinetmaking craftsmanship, where the quality of the materials is combined with precise execution. With its balanced dimensions, this highly decorative piece can serve as a small desk, a salon table, or, why not, an elegant and functional console in an entrance or a bedroom. Period: Early 20th century. Very good condition. Varnished finish. 575V.
