A pair of neoclassical Lombard commodes, dating from the last quarter of the 18th century, characterised by a refined design and elegant craftsmanship. Each commode is supported by four tapered, fluted legs. The front features three drawers, with the first being narrower and the other two designed without visible hardware, allowing for a continuous marquetry. The walnut and walnut burl veneer is enhanced with borders of olive wood and inlays of maple and amaranth, creating a striking interplay of colours and contrasts. The entire surface is finely marquetried: the band under the top of the first drawer is decorated with an openwork ebony frieze adorned with alternating flowers and lilies. The sides and undersides of the tops feature leafy rosettes; opposing leafy scrolls repeat on the top and front of the two main drawers, at the centre of which is a marquetry figure of a scholar. The interiors of the commodes are made of fir. There are some restorations: one of the seat backs has been replaced and some locks have been renewed.
