Vienna Porcelain – Double handle vase

This pretty vase dated from the late nineteenth century represents several mythological scenes, each hand-painted by the artist (who remains unknown). The vase is in good condition, with some signs of wear especially at the opening of the lid. This double-handled urn is made of vienna porcelain. It is positioned on a circular base and is decorated with an oval panel of bachantin, on a cobalt blue background enhanced with gilding decorated with rinses, with a lid in similar tones. Less famous in france than the porcelains of sèvres, limoges and paris, vienna porcelain is made by the augarten palace factory in leopoldstadt, in the viennese region. It was founded more than three hundred years ago, in 1718, and is the second oldest porcelain factory in europe, just after the saxon one founded in 1709.
