Made by Hylte in Sweden in the 1960s, this elm chest of drawers is characterised by an essential construction, defined by five wide drawers and a raised base with squared legs. The paired shaped handles discreetly follow the linear design of the drawer fronts, while the warm tone of the wood highlights the distinctive grain of the elm. Originally, pieces of this type, known in Swedish as ritningsskåp, were intended for storing drawings and plans, with wide, shallow drawers allowing sheets to be kept flat. The original “Hylte Ritningsskåp” label, bearing an address in Värnamo, is still present inside the piece and documents its production and original function. Good condition. It may show signs of age.
