Longchamp square plate, Plage model

A sea scene from another era, printed in a delicate shades of blue-grey on an ivory background: this earthenware plate by Longchamp, dating from the 50s/60s, beach model, offers a true miniature painting. A sailboat beached on a shore, boats pulled on the sand, a turbulent sky. The coastal decoration printed in very fine underglaze blue, evokes old engravings. Its square shape with rounded edges gives it a rare character. Longchamp stamp a little faded with mention of the beach model and inlay of the Longchamp terre de fer mention. Founded in 1867 in Burgundy, the Longchamp earthenware factory has established itself as one of the great French manufacturers, renowned for its fine earthenware tableware with rustic or stylized decorations. Good condition, beautiful shine, some micro-scratches from use, a small chip under the rim and a short hairline crack. Dimensions: 24 cm by 24 cm. A discreet and poetic classic, perfect in a seaside kitchen.
