Rare set of 3 Windsor chairs known as "Low Back", model with armrests and low curved back, English work from the 19th century. Monoxyle seat in solid elm, sculpted and shaped by use, modelled according to the characteristic anatomical form of these exceptional rustic seats. Raw surface retaining its original dry and golden patina, reflecting authentic wear and continuous use for nearly two centuries. Semi-circular backrest composed of a curved steam-bent ash rail, arched to embrace the back. Turned spindles in a tapered shape and miniature baluster, joined by a pierced backrest tablet featuring a scroll motif inspired by simplified Chippendale models. Flanked by two armrests descending in a gentle curve. Four turned baluster legs with multiple rings, slightly flared. H-shaped stretchers forming a crinoline under the seat, ensuring the rigidity of the whole according to the traditional technique of carpenters from the Thames Valley and workshops in Buckinghamshire. Condition: Remarkable patina, unrestored. Good state of preservation. Wear consistent with age. No restoration needed. Set of fine quality, with generous grain and robust construction. A testament to English provincial craftsmanship and a taste for refined vernacular furniture. These chairs, while functional, exhibit a certain architectural elegance, highlighted by the simplicity of the design and the quality of the turning. Measurements: • Total height: 88 / 89 cm. • Seat height: 42 cm. • Width at armrests: 52 / 54 cm. • Seat depth: 38 cm.
