Windsor chairs known as "Low Back", armchair model with a low curved back, English work from the 19th century. Monoxyle seat in solid elm, sculpted and shaped by use, modelled according to the characteristic anatomical form of these exceptional rustic chairs. Raw surface retaining its original dry and golden patina, reflecting authentic wear and continuous use for nearly two centuries. Semi-circular back composed of a curved steam-bent ash rail, arched to embrace the back. Turned spindles in tapered and miniature baluster form, joined by a pierced backrest tablet featuring a scroll motif inspired by simplified Chippendale models. Flanked by two armrests descending in a gentle curve. Four turned baluster legs with multiple rings, slightly flared. H-stretchers under the seat, ensuring the rigidity of the whole. Condition: Remarkable patina, unrestored. Good state of conservation. Wear consistent with age. No restoration needed. A chair of fine quality, with a generous grain and robust construction. A testament to English provincial craftsmanship and a taste for refined vernacular furniture. This armchair, while functional, exhibits a certain architectural elegance, highlighted by the simplicity of the design and the quality of the turning. Measurements: • Total height: 98 cm • Seat height: 45 cm • Width at armrests: 49 cm • Seat depth: 38 cm.
