Pair of Asymmetrical Mid-Century Walnut Nightstands with Brass Details

We are delighted to offer an incredibly rare and highly sought-after pair of asymmetrical Mid-Century Modern nightstands, dating back to the 1960s. Designed as a perfect mirror-image pair (left and right), these bedside tables will beautifully frame any bed, bringing a touch of elegant vintage sophistication to your bedroom. Design and Materials. The design strongly echoes the best of Central European and East German (VEB) modernist production of the era. The silhouette features gracefully rounded corners, compass legs, and a striking asymmetrical top shelf. The cabinets are veneered in a beautifully figured walnut that exhibits rich, swirling grain patterns. What truly elevates this set into the luxury category are the original brass details. The nightstands feature elegant, slanted brass handles on the doors, small round brass knobs on the drawers, and original brass sabots (caps) on the tapered legs. Functionality. Despite their compact and elegant footprint, they offer excellent storage. Each nightstand features an open top shelf for easy access to books or devices, a small drawer, and a spacious lower cabinet with a side-opening door. Restoration and Finish. Both pieces have been fully and professionally restored in our specialized workshop. All old, degraded varnishes were meticulously stripped. The beautiful walnut veneer was then treated with premium hard wax oil. This high-end finish provides a natural, satin-matte look that allows the wood to breathe, protects the surface against moisture and daily use, and avoids the artificial gloss of synthetic lacquers.
