Decorative sculpture in steatite, also known as soapstone, inspired by tribal art, created in the mid-20th century for decoration. The hole at the top clearly indicates that this mask is meant to be hung. The back of the object shows signs of mechanical carving and polishing, while the front features incised patterns, waves, and repetitive lines typical of exported African or Indonesian decorative objects. The elongated and stylised shape of the face resembles certain masks from Oceania or Indonesia, but here it is a modern interpretation. Coco Papaya. This is an ethnographic mask likely from East Africa, Kenya or Zimbabwe, or Sumba, Indonesia. It's hard to say as it was purchased at a flea market in the 1980s. An atypical curiosity with a beautiful patina. Dimensions: height 30 cm, width 17 cm, depth 4 cm.
