This beautiful pair of bookends features two splendid pigeons. The two birds are turned away from each other and hold the books with their tails. They are pigeons or doves with well-rounded chests and tails fanned out. This animal subject was highly appreciated during the Art Deco period in the 1920s-1930s. Well-crafted, the statues are made of spelter with a silvered and coppered patina on the tail. The bases are made of black and grey marble. Each bookend measures 15 cm X 13 cm. Please note: there is glue at the base of one pigeon and the attachment of the other pigeon is broken. There are visible chips and wear.
