A classic of Scandinavian design: this jug belongs to the "Blå Eld" (Blue Fire) series, designed by Hertha Bengtson (1917–1993) for the Swedish manufacturer Rörstrand. Its droplet-shaped silhouette, asymmetrical and generous, is entirely covered with a relief pattern reminiscent of a braid or knitting. The deep cobalt blue glaze darkens in the hollows of the pattern and lightens on the raised areas, creating the "flame" effect that made the series popular. The high and ample handle, also textured, completes a very organic line, typical of Swedish modernism from the 1950s. In the Blå Eld series, white was reserved for plates and blue for serving pieces: dishes, bowls, and jugs. This jug is therefore one of the most emblematic and sought-after pieces in the range. It can be used for water or lemonade, but it is just as beautiful as a vase for a bouquet of wildflowers, or alone on a shelf. Designer: Hertha Bengtson. Manufacturer: Rörstrand, Sweden. Marks: Rörstrand stamp under the base. Dimensions. H. 17 cm × W. 15 cm (including handle and spout) Condition. Very good vintage condition. Bright and shiny glaze, with no visible chips or cracks.
