Rare: solid oak furniture from the late 19th - early 20th century, very beautifully crafted. Served for decades in the office of the caretaker of the Sorbonne University (Paris), who received people behind it. His granddaughter, now quite old, still remembers the weekends spent in the marble corridors of this institution when her grandfather looked after her... And this desk. In solid oak, it can be used as a counter, a writing desk or a storage unit. It opens with two thick doors with elegant moldings, thanks to a beautiful two-point brass lock that works perfectly with its original key. Inside, two original shelves, molded on the visible edge, rest on thick brass pins, also original, which can be adjusted in height. The whole is in remarkable condition. The upper part, called the writing desk, is slightly inclined towards the front (5cm difference in height) to allow you to write standing up while being comfortable. We still have the pen holder notch at the very top. The hinged top is covered in beautiful olive morocco leather with iron gilding around the edges. It shows signs of wear but remains in more than acceptable condition! The shelf lifts up and reveals a beautiful storage space. Here again, this part closes with a key with the same key and its beautiful brass lock. We are dealing with around 1900, so everything is solid, entirely paneled on all sides and therefore presentable from all angles. The small projection at the back of the top is finished with two discreet but elegant scrolls of solid wood. Superb piece, with a rare provenance and of undeniable quality. Can be used in a business, an office, a living room, an entrance hall or even a bedroom thanks to its neat design. H: 120 cm. W: 91 cm. D: 53 cm. The price is firm, thank you. Delivery possible in Île-de-France and ground floor for 40 euros.
