1930s Art Deco Side Cabinet, Left-Hinged
This Art Deco side cabinet of French manufacture combines a tall, very narrow carcass with a walnut veneer front laid in a mirrored cut, which produces a symmetrical grain pattern. Sides stained black and hand polished with shellac frame this warm wooden surface and give it depth. Chrome-plated steel tube edges the front and joins at the bottom in a continuous loop on which the carcass stands. The door is hinged on the left, which makes this cabinet the counterpart of the right-hinged model and allows it to be placed as a pair. At 109.5 cm high, 47 cm wide and 25.5 cm deep, the side cabinet also fits in a hallway or a wall niche, where it holds glasses, books or papers. Restored and in excellent condition, with a closed polish and complete chrome, the piece suits living room, dining room and study alike.
