Oil on canvas depicting a flock of sheep in a forest landscape bathed in the light of late summer or autumn. The scene shows a shepherd guiding his flock along a path lined with tall trees. The work is signed in the bottom right corner: Hublet II On the reverse is the handwritten inscription: “Normain – Bois Varlet – 1945” Probably a localized view or a regional memory painted just after the Second World War. Artistic description. Very atmospheric composition with: Beautiful depth of landscape. Diffuse morning light. Naturalistic treatment of foliage. Warm green and ochre palette. The work evokes post-war French regional painting, in a style close to the realist landscape painters of the mid-20th century. The aged patinated frame enhances the work well. Dimensions. Approximately 115 × 78 cm. Condition. Overall good condition: Canvas well-stretched. Slight patina and normal craquelures.
