Large papier mâché vase from Kashmir, decorated and hand-painted according to local artisanal tradition. Removable brass collar. Meticulous work done with a very fine brush using gold powder, depicting a lush floral design scattered with stylised birds. In Kashmiri decorative art, birds symbolise the freedom of the soul and the harmony of the paradise garden, a legacy of Persian and Mughal traditions. Every detail is handcrafted using the traditional technique of lacquered papier mâché, passed down in the workshops of Kashmir where master artisans and apprentices collaborate to create these finely detailed decorations.
