Exceptional sculptural piece from the 1960s, emblematic of high Venetian art glass. This ashtray or catchall by Alessandro Mandruzzato, an undisputed master of polyhedral form. Technical Excellence: Sommerso & Ghiaccio. The object illustrates an absolute mastery of the submerged glass technique (Sommerso). The heart of the piece reveals a fascinating deep ruby red core, subtly enhanced by an elegant amber yellow halo. This ensemble of vibrant hues is majestically encapsulated in a thick block of translucent aqua blue crystal. The boldness of this work lies in the striking contrast of its textures. The outer base adopts a Ghiaccio finish (raw bark or sculpted ice effect) with a brutalist spirit. This sculptural roughness magnificently opposes the high outer facets and the inner bowl. The meticulous polishing of these smooth surfaces offers absolute flatness and a perfect mirror effect, creating true optical windows to admire the coloured core.
