Lovers of rare and characterful pieces, this candy box is a real gem! Made in Quimper in the HB-Henriot workshops, it boldly combines two emblematic elements of Breton tradition: the famous "pink basket" decoration, with freshness and bright colors (yellow, pink, green and speckled blue), and a rare portrait of a Breton pipe smoker hand-painted on the lid. Signed "Bagnoles de l'Orne", this piece would most likely be a special order for a business or a spa, as was done at the time. This type of mixed decoration, combining a stylized floral motif and a Breton figure, is almost impossible to find on the current market. It does not appear in any of the current Quimper catalogs. We love the graphic richness of the decor: pink festoons, floral garlands, yellow borders and touches of dark green on a speckled background, the unique portrait with a naive but expressive line, in a yellow niche-shaped frame and the generous and rounded shape, typical of HB utility pieces from the 50s-60s. Diameter 12.5 cm without the handles, height 13 cm with lid (8.5 cm without lid) Very good vintage condition, slight traces of time under the base, a mini chip on the edge of each of the handles and a paint defect on the edge (missing a little speckled blue). See photos. A real collector's item. A resolutely retro and colorful charm, perfect for interiors with character!.
