Eggshell Porcelain Coffee Service Japan Lithophany Geisha

Superb and authentic vintage coffee service (espresso/demitasse size) made of fine porcelain from Japan, dating from the mid-20th century (circa 1950-1960). Each piece is entirely hand-painted with a traditional decor of great finesse depicting a lakeside landscape with the snow-capped Mount Fuji, a traditional pagoda, and bamboo branches. The soft green and sky blue shades harmonize with the black outlines and silver trims that enhance the geometric collars and handles. Shaped from "egg shell" porcelain of incredible lightness, the cups hide a poetic secret. By placing the bottom of an empty cup in front of a light source (like a smartphone flash), the filigree face of a traditional Geisha magically appears through transparency (lithophany technique). Composition of the service (15 pieces): • 1 Teapot/Coffee pot with its lid. • 1 Milk jug/Creamer. • 1 Sugar bowl with its lid. • 5 Espresso cups with lithophany. • 5 Matching saucers. Overall very good condition. The porcelain is intact, and the colors and painted decorations remain very fresh. Note: a small discreet chip on the upper edge of one of the saucers (see detail photo), which does not affect the overall aesthetics or the sturdiness of the set.
