The margoum rug is also unique in that it is made according to ancient traditions in its weaving methods: the background of the margoum is woven like a kilim, and the motifs are embroidered using knots, like on a classic rug, but on the reverse side. The margoum therefore has no pile but a smooth, textured surface. On its reverse side, the wool backing threads attest to the handcrafted authenticity of this handmade rug. The margoum is based on the Arabic word "regma, " meaning diamond pattern; the word "margoum" originates from this. However, the margoum originated with the Berbers, and diamonds symbolize fertility. There are three main types of motifs: a large number of small diamonds, medium diamonds, or large central diamonds. Our handmade rugs are all inspected by the quality control department of the National Handicrafts Office. A certificate of authenticity accompanies each piece.
