Lions, bubbles, and a touch of Norman flair. Pop. Fizz. Roar. Every good party needs a bouncer, and this one has two: lions at the door. This vintage French silver-plated champagne cooler is the kind of piece that turns a bottle of bubbles into an event. Even a Tuesday night crémant feels like a vintage Krug as soon as it slips in. Its flared silhouette is sharp and confident, highlighted by two bands of fine fluting. On each side, a proud lion's head holds a wide ring handle in its mouth, a classic of French hotel and brasserie silverware, made to be carried from the table to the terrace by hurried servers. And then there's the weight. Pick it up, and you'll understand right away. This is not a fragile party accessory. It’s a serious and sturdy piece of French table art, designed for decades of service. About the material. Turn it over, and you'll find its signature, Clos Normand, stamped in a small diamond shape. This diamond-shaped hallmark is the official French mark for silver-plated metal: it is therefore a genuine French silver-plated piece from an identified manufacturer, not an anonymous item. The heaviness tells the rest of the story: a heavy piece indicates a generous layer of silver over a robust base metal, most likely nickel silver, which explains why it polishes to a shine worthy of a hotel bar at midnight. Inside, the bottom shows slight honest wear, the mark of a past life full of ice and good company, and exactly what you want from a cooler that has stories to tell. Cheers! The lions are ready when you are! A little note on silver plating. Silver plating is the clever cousin of solid silver: a solid base metal dressed in a thin layer of real silver. It offers all the glamour and shine at a much sweeter price (and leaves more budget for Champagne). The only thing to know: the layer of silver is a garment, not a skin, so treat it gently. After a party, rinse your cooler with warm water and a drop of mild soap, then dry it immediately with a soft cloth. No dishwashers, no abrasive sponges, and only a gentle polish from time to time when it starts to look a bit dull. Too much enthusiastic rubbing slowly wears away the silver. Take care of it, and it will continue to refresh, shine, and steal the show on your table for decades! A little note on photographing silver. Silver is a diva in front of the camera. It reflects everything: the piece, the lights, and, if you're not careful, our surprised faces (not the desired effect). To keep the focus on the object, we photograph with large screens around to control reflections. But all this shine has a side effect: fine scratches, small dents, and slight signs of wear can hide in the gleam and be hard to see in photos. We always do our best to show each piece as honestly as possible. Before any shipment, we hand polish, so that what arrives at your home is always a beautiful heavy piece, with the soft patina of an object used for decades and still loved today!.
