Large wrought iron lamp in the style of the Ateliers Marolles 1950s. France, made of metal. The Ateliers de Marolles were founded in the 1940s in the village of Marolles-en-Brie (Seine-et-Marne) by Jean Touret, a sculptor and artistic ironworker. Bringing together a community of artisans—ironworkers, cabinetmakers, and ceramists—the workshops produce unique furniture, halfway between folk art and sacred art. Each piece, often made of solid oak and wrought iron, is marked by a rustic expressiveness, a noble simplicity, and a deep attachment to raw materials. The spirit of the Ateliers de Marolles rejects industrial production in favor of manual, communal, and poetic work. Today, the works from these workshops are highly prized by lovers of design and spiritual or sculptural furniture, particularly in collections of French design from the 1950s. Reference: 1696.
