Old framed pastel painting – S. Beaujeu Dufour – Petit Trianon

This large original vintage pastel represents the neoclassical façade of the Petit Trianon, recognisable by its fluted pilasters and tall windows, almost engulfed here by a profusion of blooming hydrangeas — pink, white, mauve — that invade the foreground with a springtime generosity. The sky is blue, light, crossed by clear clouds. A tree extends its branches over the scene. And the golden stone of the royal pavilion blends into this vegetal explosion with a completely natural grace. The brushwork is lively, impressionistic, luminous. The signature of the painter Suzanne Beaujeu-Dufour is affixed at the bottom left. Born in Bièvres in 1906 and died in Créteil in 1974, this artist exhibited with the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors from 1929 to 1934.
