Antique mirror with parcloses – louis xv/baroque style

ANTIQUE MIRROR WITH PARCLOSES – Louis XV/BAROQUE style. Dimensions: Height: 133cm; Width: 92cm; Central glass: 74 X 52cm. Beautiful antique mirror in Louis XV/baroque style, with parcloses, topped with a pediment featuring an armorial cartouche framed by sculpted grape clusters and foliage. Frame in wood and gilded paste, with bead mouldings and twisted flutes. A mirror dated by its own history: the back panel is lined with period newspaper, still in place and never reopened since its installation - several readable fragments of the press allow for precise dating of its manufacture to March 1901 (article on the Montceau-les-Mines strike, the Bremen attack against Kaiser Wilhelm II, horse racing results). The paper covers the fixing points of the panel without interruption, proving that the mirror has never been disassembled from the back since that date - the glass is therefore original, with silver backing. Condition: beautiful patina of use, some localized chips and losses of gilding (visible in the photo), glass with slight oxidation pitting typical of its age - no cracks or fractures. Solid, ready to hang.
