Helmut Dittmann (1931–2000), abstract composition in red and grey, watercolour and ink on paper, dated 19.02.1985 in the artist's hand lower left on the front. This work bears the official estate stamp on the reverse, confirming its authenticity as part of the artist's estate. Dittmann was a Berlin-Charlottenburg artist who studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Berlin and was appointed master student under Prof. Hans Uhlmann in 1956. He received two scholarships from the Akademie der Künste Berlin for residencies at the Villa Serpentara in Olévano Romano, Italy. His work spans painting, graphic art, collage and ceramic sculpture, and was shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. This large-format work is a refined and meditative piece: hundreds of overlapping circular segments in shades of red, coral, grey, black and white cover the entire picture surface in a dense, rhythmic pattern. The combination of translucent watercolour washes and precise ink contours creates a rich interplay of tone and texture – at once structured and organic, restrained and deeply decorative. The reduced palette gives the work an elegant, interior-friendly quality that sets it apart from Dittmann's more colourful compositions. The work is sold including the frame.
